How do I get here?

The nearest town to Auchen Castle is Moffat, which is:

From London

From London

By train (recommended option)

  1. Travel to London Euston station.

  2. Take a train from London Euston to Lockerbie.

  3. From Lockerbie, continue to Moffat by taxi (approximately 15–20 minutes) or by local bus service.

Moffat does not have its own train station, so Lockerbie is the nearest rail connection.

By bus and train (budget option)

  1. Take a coach from London Victoria Coach Station to Carlisle.

  2. From Carlisle, take a train to Lockerbie.

  3. From Lockerbie, take a taxi or bus to Moffat.

This option involves more transfers and takes longer but is usually cheaper.

By car

  1. Leave London and join the M6 motorway heading north.

  2. Continue onto the A74(M), which becomes the M74 in Scotland.

  3. Exit at Junction 15 (Beattock/Moffat).

  4. Follow local signs to Moffat (approximately 5 minutes from the motorway).

By air and onward travel
Option 1:

  1. Fly from London to Glasgow Airport.

  2. Travel from Glasgow to Moffat by bus (departing from Buchanan Bus Station).

Option 2:

  1. Fly from London to Edinburgh Airport.

  2. Take a train from Edinburgh to Lockerbie.

  3. From Lockerbie, take a taxi or bus to Moffat.

From North America

Step 1: Fly from North America to Scotland (via connection)

  1. Depart from Airport.

  2. Take a connecting flight to Scotland (no direct flights are available).

  3. Most common routes include:

    • Los Angeles → London Heathrow → Edinburgh

    • Los Angeles → Dublin → Edinburgh

    • Los Angeles → European hub (e.g. Amsterdam or Paris) → Edinburgh

There are currently no direct flights from Los Angeles to Scotland; all routes require at least one stop.

Typical total travel time is approximately 14–16 hours depending on the connection.

Step 2: Arrive in Scotland (recommended airport: Edinburgh)

  1. Arrive at Edinburgh Airport.

  2. Moffat does not have an airport; Edinburgh is one of the closest major airports (around 40–45 miles away).

Step 3: Travel from Edinburgh to Moffat

Option A (car – simplest):

  1. Hire a car at the airport.

  2. Drive south via the A702 and A701.

  3. Travel time is approximately 1.5–2 hours.

Option B (train + taxi):

  1. Travel from Edinburgh to Lockerbie railway station by train.

  2. From Lockerbie, take a taxi or local bus to Moffat (15–20 minutes).

Option C (bus):

  1. Take a bus from Edinburgh to Moffat (may require a connection depending on service).

Alternative arrival airports
You may also fly into:

  • Glasgow Airport (about 1.5–2 hours from Moffat)

  • Carlisle Lake District Airport (closer but with fewer flights)
